I'm trying to create a website that gives people a better understanding of what the weather is typically like at a destination by showing historical weather. Unfortunately the daily and hourly weather at most places in the world is not actually recorded. Even at many weather stations, the weather data that is recorded is quite limited.
As a result I use two types of weather data for this site: observed weather at airports and estimated weather at any location
The observed weather of the nearest airport is automatically displayed when you search a destination. I think if the airport is close to your destination this gives you the best idea of what the weather is typically like at the destination you're interested in. I think it is much more reliable than the estimated weather at the actual location.
The data comes from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet (IEM), operated by Iowa State University, using data from official airport stations around the world.
Estimated weather is produced by combining:
Essentially it is an estimate of what happened. This data comes from Open-Meteo.
While I aim to use reliable data sources and ensure I provide accurate data, especially for observed weather, errors may occur. Therefore I provide this information without any warranty or guarantee of accuracy.
